Donnie Leslie Poindexter, 60, of Triangle, made quite a scene over the weekend at the ABC Store on River Ridge Boulevard in Woodbridge, when members of the police department needed to be called in to diffuse a disorderly suspect, authorities announced on Tuesday, April 25.
It is alleged that Poindexter walked into the store, apparently intoxicated, and attempted to make a purchase, to which an employee denied. He then exited the store sparking the beginning of a strange sequence that played out.
The incident was reported at 4:25 p.m. on Saturday, April 22.
After being denied, police say that Poindexter began to urinate outside the store before exposing himself to store employees. He then walked to a different nearby business, where he was met by members of the Prince William County Police Department.
Officers at the second business confirmed that Poindexter was intoxicated, though he refused to go down quietly.
A spokesperson for the department said that as officers were escorting the intoxicated man to a police cruiser, he went rogue, striking one officer before kicking another. He was then re-secured and placed into the police cruiser without further incident.
No injuries were reported.
Poindexter was charged with:
- Two counts of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer;
- Disorderly conduct;
- Indecent exposure;
- Obstruction of justice;
- Intoxicated in public.
According to the Virginia State Police Sex Offender Registry, Poindexter first registered as a sex offender in June 2010 for “taking indecent liberties with children” following a conviction in May that year.
He last renewed his registration on Monday, Jan. 23 in Triangle.
Poindexter is scheduled to appear back in court on Thursday, June 22. Bond information was unavailable on Tuesday afternoon.
